En memoriam a la Day of the Dead - tribute to canceled TV shows

September 13th is Roald Dahl Day, in honor of Roald Dahl’s birthday. In honor of one of his most popular books, here’s a quote from “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”

So please, oh please, we beg, we pray,
Go throw your TV set away,
And in its place you can install
A lovely bookshelf on the wall.

Then fill the shelves with lots of books,
Ignoring all the dirty looks,
The screams and yells, the bites and kicks,
And children hitting you with sticks –
Fear not, because we promise you
That, in about a week or two
Of having nothing else to do,
They’ll now begin to feel the need
Of having something good to read.

Curious about this Quote?

I wouldn’t dream of spoiling the surprise. Impatient children could skip ahead to chapter 27, “Mike Teavee is sent by Television,” and read ahead. Or, those who have seen a movie of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” could make a good guess, but real knowledge involves reading the book. As Grampa Joe said, “what you imagine sometimes comes true.”
